RECOGNITION is a fresh collection of 12 rootsy and melodic originals from the Canadian artist often called "a songwriter's songwriter." Sometimes witty, sometimes gut-wrenching - often both simultaneously - this is a record for both the head and the heart.

Mixed by Richie Biggs (Civil Wars, Joy Williams, The Lone Bellow), RECOGNITION features Carolyn on acoustic guitar and piano with long-time collaborator Spencer Capier on violin, a suite of mandolins, bouzouki, and electric guitar. Co-producer Roy Salmond contributes accordion, pump organ, and additional guitars, while acoustic bassist Miles Hill (Van Morrison, Eric Clapton) and drummer Randall Stoll (k.d. Lang, Tom Cochrane) keep things grooving.

Special guests include Amy Grant, the McCrary Sisters, and the Love Sponge String Quartet.

Wonderful music!

Every track on this album is powerful and so well done. The lyrics are deep, the melodies catchy, and the arrangements very professional. I love the additional contributions by all the guest musicians. The saddest tracks are some of the most powerful and beautiful ones: To Cry For You (the strings are so moving and gorgeous), Let Love Lead You Home (my favourite, but I'm biased), and After This (bonus track that I'm so glad was included).

Thought Provoking Awesomeness as Usual!

This album does not disappoint! I have loved Carolyn's music for years and this album was definitely worth the wait. I love the songs. A wide variety of emotions are provoked! Sometimes I like listening to the album over and over, other times I listen to a single song or two for contemplation. There is a bit of energetic encouragement as well as deep healing that allows grief. Each song beckons us to live life fully but from a different angle. Open this poetic invitation to embrace the challenges of life and leave with the joy of recognizing WHO is with you.

Out of this world GOOD

Recognition is fresh and imaginative. It offers variety and depth in both music and lyrics. Everyone needs to buy, listen and seep in the good work that has been done on this record.

Music of My Dreams

I really like your music, and I listen to it every night. Two of my most favorite songs are Almost Didn't Recognize You and To Cry for You. I have many other favorites, and I also like listening to them without words to help me focus on my thoughts.

Wonderful Classic Carolyn!

There's really only one word to describe the new music of Carolyn Arends...."wow". Ok, maybe two..."amazing". And well, actually you could throw encouraging, peaceful, relaxing, and heartwarming in there pretty easily too. Carolyn's first album in years titled 'Recognition' is a welcome treat, and at least in my world, a refreshing new set of unique songs full of encoragement, hope, love, and fresh persective. Carolyns sweet, soothing voice sounds better than ever, and her lyrics are an original mix of classic Carolyn Arends sound, written with relatable truths, purposeful message, a little clever humor, and some heart tugging too. Its so great to hear her again, and i'm thankful to have her new music to enjoy for many years to come. If you want something truly different, beautiful, and inspiring, you won't be disappointed in Carolyn's latest work...I promise.
